Truth in the media 

Fyre Documentary- the greatest party that never happened
  • Biggest scam of the recent years: sold a festival that never happened based on slick advertising using influencers 
  • The event was secondary to the selling of it
  • Influencers, celebrity is predicated on promoting a celebrity version of themselves, is the fyre fiasco a reflection of this? 

Adverts influence people to believe that something is real when at the end is nothing compared to what was shown to people. “A precautionary tale of over-selling and under-delivering in the modern social media age” 

How to check fake news (BBC Trending)
  • Internet search
  • Use trustworthy source like BBC News 
People do it for the money, each time they have a fake story and people search on their website; they do it to influence opinions of other people; and they do it for joke

Hypernormalisation Documentary
  • The USA (President Reagan) characterised colonel Gaddafi and Libya as the key terror threat in 1986, exploiting this desire for notoriety and his eccentric personality. 
  • This deflected from president Assad (Syria)’s and Ayatollah Khomeini (Iran)’s (more significant) campaigns of terror in name of Hezbollah- suicide bombers.
