Podcast Reflection

My groups initial idea was to work on a documentary film based on a gay, transgender student at LSC. We had already had a few interviews with the student, asking her basic questions and information that we needed, me and my group were planning on also film her daily routine at college and outside college, unfortunately, the interviewed wouldn't collaborate with us and in addition, due to the different time availability, we had to cancel our project since the deadline date was close and start working on something more efficient. We had chosen to work on a documentary on a gay person because we felt like our class would be interested in getting to know the story of a student at our college that is gay and the struggles, as well as we as the crew were interested to know more about the student. The production also didn't go as planned because due to our mistake, the camera wasn't focussed. We thought about using only the voice of the person since the audio quality was perfect, but we figured out that it'd be too boring for our targeted audience to watch, no matter the amount of nice cutaways we would have.

Later we had the idea of working on a podcast debate with another gay person that showed more interest in working with us. It went really well, because we had already all the planned questions for the previous filmes interview that we used in order to interview our other guests. We had two guests with us and one of them was against being gay as well as teaching the children about it. We got two people with two different point of view because we wanted to show the public that still there are people that judge and don't support the movement of LGBT; however, we can't change the way everyone sees this matter and decided to hear them out and air it for our audience.

During production we had to stop sometimes and restart because of technical problems. I believe our inspiration was Podcast that we often listen to, also debates that I see on TV programmes, that i always liked listening to. I believe we all had fun filming, for both cast and crew. It was a nice and comfortable experience for everyone because there were no cameras so everyone could be real and confident on what they were saying.

Throughout the post production time, me as the editor, I used Adobe Audition CC in order to edit the sound and select the audios. we figured out that the podcast was too plain and we decided to add some background royal free music that I found in a website called "Epidemic Sound". This is a free music website where you can find music for your videos as well as sound effects and you can download up to 3 sounds for free. I needed more than 3 sounds so what I done was using my other gmail account in order to get more sound effects. Even after trimming the audio with all the unnecessary noises and dialogue. it was still 6 minutes long, due to that i had to double the time of the background music and fade it in between the beginning and end

After, even with the background music it was still too plain, that's when i decided to add some extra sound effects as shown in the following screenshot. After speaking to my group about what they thought about the sound effects, we came to a conclusion that some of them were too much, so we decided to delete most of them and leave only the necessary ones.
the sound effects are the ones shown in orange, as you can see i had to edit the sound of those sound effects too because they were longer than what i needed.

We had everything under control from the beginning until we acknowledge that the people we wanted to interview weren't available often as we were because of their final projects and rehearsals etc.
Even though we started production of the podcast at the last minute, we still managed to finish production and post production within the deadline date. In 3 days we had our project finished.

Our final project applies to the rule of Judith Butler that publishes gender trouble. that because Butler has worked on a book "in which the author argues that gender is a kind of improvised performance. The work is influential in feminismwomen's studies, and lesbian and gay studies, and has also enjoyed widespread popularity outside of traditional academic circles. Butler's ideas about gender came to be seen as foundational to queer theory and the advancing of dissident sexual practices during the 1990s." Meaning that Butler's theory supports the gay and lesbian.

Working on this project has mainly helped me improve my skills in adobe audition and how to work with the recorder, as well as setting up for the interviewer and the interviewee. This could be really helpful for my next project because now I know how a podcast is made; however, i wouldn't work on a audio podcast for my FMP because it feels too simple and basic for such importance.
