Narrative Structure (Curfew)

Narrative Structure (Curfew)

Why do we tell stories?
We tell stories in order to inform, entertain and to tell morals. Stories often tells us stuff that has happened in the real world, sometimes stories tells myths and things that some of us believe that it exists, special scifi. In the case of Curfew it looks more like a moral telling where it shows to us as an audience how people entering our lives can change it, sometimes we just need to give a chance to ourselves

For example, in the film Curfew it tells a story of a looking depressed adult that wants to die, the place where it's filmed looks disgusting and dark in order to let the audience know that he isn't living in a very good condition either, to reinforce it, at some point of the film, the little girl repetitively tells him that he doesn't look healthy at all and telling him that he needs a girlfriend to take care of him “because you can't clearly take care of yourself”

The equilibrium would usually be at the beginning of the film but with Curfew it doesn't look like there is equilibrium at any point of the film.
Disequilibrium of the film is when the girl gets involved in the uncles life preventing him from achieving what he wanted which was to commit suicide. It is when he is forced to stop cutting himself to go and take care of the girl.
The new equilibrium is when  he is at the bathtub ready to carry on cutting himself as the beginning of the film and the phone starts ringing, this is exactly when the new equilibrium started, when he picks up and his sister tells him she wants to reconcile.

A hero’s journey
In this film it looks like the hero is the girl that came and made the family reunite, i would say the dramatic questions are
Why did he want to die
What happened to his sister? Who beat her up like that?
Why did she ask him to stay with her knowing that they don'te4 talk

Binary oppositions
The gender
The age difference
Their personalities, the girl has a more bright and energetic personality, whilst the man is depressed.
