Escape

Somewhere in between the middle African countries, in 1976, the 8 year old Che’Quavious is  always sick, especially when he’s at school. His mom has taken him to the hospital various times, to the best doctors in the city and there are no answers for why he is always sick, instead, the boy keeps getting worse. Every Doctor that comes to see him leave his room confused about what is going on. Laying in bed with his mother, there are pediatricians, psychiatrists, and doctors. No one finds a grip of what could be wrong with the little boy.  She has suspicions of what it could be, evil eye, witchcraft or so. Therefore, they only had one way to find out what was going on. 

 Mom decides to take Che to a witchdoctor to cure her child. After listening from neighbors and elders that it could be her last hope.

As soon as she arrives at the place, the witchdoctor tells the boy to sit down and hand in his hands. 2 minutes after contacting with the outside world, spirits take over the witchdoctor’s body. He analyses the boy and says “ your name is Che isn't it, your friend at school is the reason why you are always sick. Here we do not say names, you will go back to school soon and find out”.

Shooked, the mother asks, “could you please be more specific sir?”

Now the spirit which has taken over the witchdoctor’s body gets angry and everything in the place starts to shake. Loudly, the witchdoctor says “ do not interrupt!”.

Silence for a few seconds and the witchdoctor says “In the other world they were having an affair and they got caught, Che has escaped from her husband Gilbert, scared, the girl followed her lover ( Che’Quavious). Half way through the escape, they went separate ways, both of them lost contact, and here they are, born again” 

      (flashback to what has happened) 

Confused the mother thinks herself, “how does this makes my child sick? Who could this girl be?”

The witchdoctor keeps talking “Gilbert from the other world, can't accept the fact that he was betrayed by you both Che and her. He is doing everything he can to take both of them back and finally get his revenge. And there is only one way to stop him.” 

The witchdoctor goes back to his normal form, the spirit leaves his body and says; “you heard everything I can tell you. In one week time, come meet me here again, be here before 1am, bring a costume handmade of traditional fabric, and remember! The costume has to be made with the intention for the force (Gilbert) bring a pot full of Calulu (traditional food), bring jewelry and palm oil. I will do my part. You might be curious; your child is only having these problems now because he has started school with that girl. Gilbert dont like the fact that now they are close”.

The mother and the child go directly home after. The next day, the mother wakes up very early and goes to a known seamstress to get the costumes and all ready. After she goes running to Che’Quavious school to try finding the person who has a plotted destiny with her son. She tries to convince the reception to let her go through the book with the information of the students in order to get a trail. The mother isn't allowed to have a look at the information even when speaking to the principle ; her reasons aren't too convincing to them. The only way she has left is to figure it out with Che’Quavious. The mother arrives home and talks to Cha’Quavious about the matter. After a long time of talk, Cha’Quavious tells the mother that he has about 5 close friends at school. From that the mother asks the names where two of them girls and three boys. She figures out that if not Quantisha it’d be Maghda, from the people that he had named.

The next day the mother on her way to get Cha’Quavious from school as all the other mothers she waits until she sees the mother of any of the children. It happens that Quantisha’s mom came at the same time, as the son had already pointed out that was the mother of one of the girls. She asks the mother if her child has been having the same problems as Che’Quavious; Quantisha’s mom admired says that her child has been having the same problems for a while and she is very concerned about it. Che’Quavious mother explains everything the witchdoctor has said and they agree to meet at the place where the doctor has told her to. 

In a week both mothers get everything the witchdoctor asked for. They meet together and go to the witch with the whole family. When they arrive to the destination the doctor prepares a table with all the food and props he asked for her to bring.

And now the witch marries both children; Cha’Quavious and Quantisha, but the worst was to come. The river nearby starts to move in different direction causing everyone to be in fear which was told to them that it was Gilbert manifesting his anger. The witchdoctor throws half the food they had brought to the river, meaning that Gilbert was taking his part of the wedding celebration. The witch puts the costumes and the rest of the gifts by the river, it starts raining and the river forms waves dragging everything on its way into the river. The witchman said what had to be said and even so, the river kept angy. 

 This is when the final part came, sacrificing the children. The witch whips them in order for Gilbert to leave them alone, all the children around came and joined to whip them. They celebrated the marriage, leaving every single cutlery, pots, plates that was later thrown into the river and left. Gilbert isn't able now to harm any of the children. 

Weeks after both children felt better and never got any problems related. The children paid what they owed. In school they carried on being friends and left what happened in the past. 

A shot of the witchdoctor talking to himself; “ Gilbert tried to take these children back from where they came from. A close friend would’ve never done what they both have done. They could’ve been born brother and sister if they didn't go separate ways. Oh well, now everything has calmed down.”
